Anyone on here have any experience participating in either event:
Spartan Race: http://www.spartan.com/
GoRuck: http://www.goruck.com/en/

I signed up for my first sprint Spartan Race for 2015 and have recently discovered Rucking. I was just wondering what people's experiences are with either one and what pointers can be given for the types of workouts you did to prepare for them?

I usually just do about 40min of cardio followed by 30min of weight lifting. But since some of these events are geared for different things- endurance, upper body, etc, I want ideas for workouts.

Thanks!

I've done a couple Spartans. However each course is different. Balancing your cardio and weight training is a good idea. Especially upper body if you have the rope climb or wall crawl.

But if you are having issues with any if the obstacles you can bypass with a penalty of a round of burpees.

Just remember to have fun.

Oh man, I've included burpees into my leg workout day. Ugh. I think I'd rather make a fool of myself on the obstacles than do the penalty. :p

I've never been able to do a pull up in my life or be able to climb a rope. Those are my end result goals for my workout routine.

I've discovered that getting older sucks. I'm not even that old, but my body is definitely different and less able to do things/recover as quickly as when I was in my 20s, haha.

I have done a number of Spartans, Tough Mudders, Muckfests and other obstacle races. They are all designed for everyone to do. You usually just pay a penalty for not completing an obstacle. In Spartans it is doing 30 burpees. In Tough Mudders it is swimming in ice cold mud water if/when you fall off. I am addicted to these races because they are so much fun. A good cardio base is essential and makes them more fun. Takes some of the torture out of them if you are in decent shape. Pushups, pullups, burpees are all good training because you climb walls, mud berms, ropes, monkey bars, etc.
