I thought about washers. But that would make it taller at the bolt locations instead of just in the middle. (And make it look like I rigged it up to work)

ok, so, I've seen a few of these, and, every time I do, I have to wonder....

for those of you with navara snorkels, why not take some sand paper to the thing and knock the "navara" off of it so it's smooth?

great rig btw, just a curiosity point on the snorkel...my CDO would kick in and make me do it (if I had a 1st gen that had one)

@drbandkgb
I think there is a difference in cowl's out there. Some of the early 1st Gens have just straps that go around the rail and I think the center section is lower which would make this a non issue. However, the later 1st gens have a cowl that covers all the roof rack rails and sits a little higher. Let me take some pictures this weekend so you can see what's going on. I don't necessarily think a new bar is req'd.

@dhyde79
I guess I could sand it down. There is some dimpling on the inside where the letters are bossed out, so I don't know if you could get it all the way flat. Plus the sanded area would have a different finish than the rest of the snorkel. And that would bug me more than just some letters.

Hmm....good point, I was hoping those were molded on not pushed through...

Sanded area having a different finish is an easy fix...sand it all with the same final grit to get a nice uniform smoothness, spray it with an adhesion promoter, then spray with krylon fusion to either all black or color match the rig ;)

So. Put a deposit down on a Shrock rear bumper yesterday. They're calling it a 4 month lead time. Which is why I thought just a deposit was prudent. Unfortunately I simply do not have access to competent offroad fabbers in this area. I think I can find somebody to make my sliders but the last time I tried that, the guy had no clue what I was trying to do.

They wanted 50% down to start production. Which isn't bad all things considered. If it was something that was pre made and in stock I'd shell out the whole thing up front. But for something with a 4-month lead time, plus they are notorious for delays, doing it $480 at a time wasn't bad.

I thought about going custom, but my problem is this area. If you don't have a Jeep, no one knows enough about anything to make it work. In the long run, it was far easier just to pay for the Shrock despite the wait time. If I lived near TN (X Mecca, it seems) or somewhere out in CO, then custom wouldn't be a problem at all.

I was hoping that RLC would have something by now because his front bumper is awesome (and definitely on my list). I just didn't know if/when a rear bumper was going to turn into reality.

A box came in the mail today. I waisted no time.

I wish the upper mounting plate had some bend in it....as flat as it is, it really doesn't conform to the top much. However, it is rock solid.

Now if I can only get Dephep to send me the bill for my roof rack......

Any chance you can get some more pictures. Zoomed out ones? I'd like to see the whole truck at a distance. Especially the bl 33 with snorkel. Mostly curious how the desert runners look wrapped in 33's. Giving thought to going that route in the future. Great build!

Its going to get bigger once I finish the SL. Plus I want to grind down and paint my frame rails. They look like crap.

A few things of note. I went to Home Depot and spent $25 on 1/4-20 stainless screws, washers, & nylock nuts. And since the screws for that spot on the roof rack have been missing since day one, I retapped the holes to a 1/4-20 thread so I could use the over the counter bolts. Everything snugged right up and its not going anywhere.

Also, in mounting them (because of the light spread on these things) I canted them slightly toward the outside for maximum coverage. I think I'm going to put the other two I have in the grill opening.

I had to turn the feet to the inside and get an extra large washer on the inside behind the nylock to hold the tension, but yep. Bolted right up to the holes in the bar. The feet are reversible and have locking notches on both sides. So not a problem either way.

Sure. What kind of detail do you want? And just so you know, in this configuration it JUST BARELY lined up. If the holes were 1/8" further apart it wouldn't have worked. I'm to the very inside of each of the factory holes in the bar.

Dave, those pictures are incoming this weekend when I break the light bar down again to actually CUT A HOLE IN THE ROOF OF MY TRUCK! heh

In the meantime. I did this on Sunday:

Of course, these pictures in no way show the true output of the lights, BUT rest assured, that if it was legal, I would need no other lights on the front of the truck. This is all I would EVER need. So bright its actually not funny. I ordered a switch from England that is a metal engraved round pushbutton which sholuld be in next week so I can install it in one of the stupid places on the center stack that have the little round circles.

Also, as a random find. This 9mm socket was sitting at the bottom of my condensor core. I love finding tools! No clue how long its been there, but its been at least a few months. So that includes some wheeling as well. heh

That looks awesome. 'Bout time you got all those lights mounted! I like that spot for the lower lights. I'd take that route if I didn't have a bumper in the works.
