UXOC (Utah Xterra Owners Club) just completed our annual Pony Express Run, following the original Pony Express route from Utah county out across the barren and very remote west desert to Nevada and them back.
From where I live in Northern Utah, down to the meeting point in Lehi, out to Nevada and then to Wendover NV for dinner, Home on I-80/I-15 is about 430 miles and a 16 hour day.
Very enjoyable and fun run though. Not extremely technical or tough, but some fast, high speed desert running and a lot of interesting stops and scenic locations.
Not a place to break down, run out of fuel or crash, as you're away from most any civilization or services or contact.
Typically barely make it into Wendover on fuel, but did a little better this time for some reason.
Meeting point to top off for fuel in the morning in Lehi. Awesome clouds hugging the mountains.
Stopping past the Faust station to air down tires. Snowing and cold all around.
Lookout Pass station
Across the desert, running tailgunner. Leave nobody behind!
Quite a few sheep herds out there, and the dogs hang out with them.
"YOU SHALL NOT PASS" (at least until I stop you, sniff, bark & bite at each vehicle).
Stopping at the Simpson Springs station, where there's a reconstructed rock building, picnic area, and rare and coveted bathroom
Looking off of Dugway pass, from whence we came.
On top of the pass for a photo op.
Stopping at the Fish Springs wildlife refuge. Natural springs out in the middle of nowhere and miles of ponds for waterfowl.
While there, a golden eagle flew in for a visit.
On down the road to some thermal hot springs.
Hot Spings out in front of us (steam)
Took a pretty cool pic of Kuma's beautiful rig
Up the mountain to Utah Mine
Another photo shoot from the mountain
