Let's talk ar optics

Classify this as the research stage

I'm getting really close to drop the money on an optic for my ar. The goal for the gun is to be a grab if I ever need it. I'm not looking for the gun to be a tack driver or to handle anything over a couple hundred yards. It spends a lot of time beside the night stand. I like the idea of reflex sight

What are y'all's rifles wearing and thoughts on optics

My list is kind of as follows
1. Mepro light m21
2. Aim point patrol optic
3. Eotech 552

(Trijicon acog- I could swing it but won't do it till I can find somebody with one, and play with it. I know it's not a reflex sight but I feel like I could do a lot more with it, thoughts? Or I'm totally off with this one)

It also appeals to me because it doesn't run on batteries.

ACOG is going to be the best you will ever find. Clear glass, no batteries, just the best all around. Other than that I would go with Nikon M-308/223, depends on which you have. I have had an EOtech and Aimpoint and cannot justify the purchase. If you want something like an aimpoint, just buy a Vortex Strikefire. I have a strikefire on my LR-308 and I love it.

I've had a PRO on my wishlist for years. Still haven't managed to snag one yet when PSA has their screaming deals on Black Friday, but I'm trying, dammit!

If its a night stand gun, get a laser....and sight it for close range. (point and click)

:D

If the dot's on the perp, the shot will work.

If the perp SEES the dot on his chest, its often enough to get him to reconsider the wisdom of continuing to piss you off, and, it can get him to lay down and cooperate while you wait for the local constabulary, etc.

Well I say it stays beside the night stand because my wife is comfortable shooting it (she's a little afraid of the shotgun, and my pistol doesn't stay loaded all the time).

@pro2x, I'll have to look into that Nikon. I will admit the acog and mepro are pretty high on my list. I've just about ruled out the eotech

* we've got a real good family friend that does gunsmithing work on the side for us. He told me he could get me anything I wanted at cost since he's an authorized brownells dealer. I'm gonna have him price them out for me

Trij reflex, primary arms acss are on each gun respectively. I have a magnifier but honestly it's not needed more cool guy thing that I don't use anymore. Need to make a choice if your going to be tied to batteries or not.

I really would like to stay away from batteries... The only ones on my list though don't run batteries are the mepro light and the trijicon offerings... I guess that's where my focus is gonna be.

I have heard good things about primary arms and am planning on picking up a 2.5 or 4x soon. I really miss my acog from the service... that was a very nice optic. I used an aim point rod dot for the longest time including overseas - never once had an issue in 5 years.
