Kris, I just got a little scared with you holding that knife and bighting your lip like that. That looks like something Hanabal Lector <--(Spelling?) would have.

It's definitely a pretty wicked looking knife. I had a guy giving me a fuss about his quarter stuck in the machine at the place I used to work at, so I took my knife out and slid it into the quarter hole and knocked the puppy out. As soon as her saw me open the blade he shut up. I just smiled.

Wow, that looks like a guttin' knife/brass knuckles. I feel sorry if you ever need to use it on anyone. It's a b****in' knife though.

Thanks. Yeah, that Randall is one of my joys.
Back in 2000 I was doing ok and wanted to buy myself a Randall. I picked the knife with the custom stuff I wanted and paid for it. Three years later they shipped it. That same model without the custom stuff is more than $100.00 higher price and I think a four year wait today. It's something to buy, use and then hand down to your son...

ok, so, here's my current collection.

cold steel super edge (on my keychain)

SOG Trident Tanto (black) (left pocket)

Cold Steel Recon Tanto (black) (beside driver's seatbelt latch) (excuse the TERRIBLE picture)

Ka-Bar Tanto Folder (serrated, black) Bug Out Kit/Hiking Kit

Gerber Mark II Survival Knife (older serration style) this guy is my baby, it's seen as many countries as I have, as it was my field knife throughout my entire military career. the tip is still in a foreign country, getting ready to let a local shop re-edge and shape it whilst they sharpen it too.

Boker Plus Automat Kalishnakov 10 Fixed Blade Tanto (bug out bag)

on top of those....I'll snap a few pics of my wall collection. ;)

P2019625.jpg

The rack of swords...
top is a double sword, each half is the sheath for the other and the handle for a blade
next is a decorative one, but, feels as if the tang is full length, and it's solid enough that I could probably sharpen it,
next is a cheap blade, but, it's been hand sharpened, so, it's fairly decent
next is a cheap one with a nice sheath, also hand sharpened, this one shaves nicely, but, the blade feels fairly thin, so, I'd bet that it'd break if it hit too much resistance.
the bottom one however, is my baby (as you'll see from the number of pics to follow) it's a hand forged 90lb damascus steel 4500 fold katana, forged in japan, I believe it's a recently made blade, but, nonetheless, it's a high quality blade, it'll shave you, and, while I haven't properly tested it, I have a very strong hunch it'd pass the silk test (assuming you know what that is, if not I'll detail if ya'll want)

Detailed pics of the second blade from the top:

Love the old style Gerber and the damascus steel 4500 fold katana. Very nice. My Randell is the only one of mine that could pass the "silk test".

the katana's the only one that I have right now, though, I'm working on learning to put a proper edge on all of em....that cold steel tanto is amazingly nasty, I've abused the hell out of it and it's still shaving...cut 3" diameter limbs off of a tree in the yard....clearing branches off of the sides of trails, so they don't hit the vehicle, stuff like that. it's amazingly strong, I'd recommend one for anyone searching for a good semi-tactical/survival blade

I used to be that crazy about the edge on my knifes but the first ya use it it's gone. I’ve got a set of three Norton wet stones and would finish the edge with jewelers rouge on a leather strop. I started thinking about not cutting stuff ‘cause it might mess up my edge. WTF?
I’ve clamed down a bit since and feel that an edge that will cut paper with a single stroke is good enough…except for the Randell.
I carry a Wetterlings Felling Axe in the truck but have been looking at the Gerber Parang.

honestly, I'm really not all that fond of gerber stuff anymore, it's not as high quality of steel, loses its edge WAY too fast, and I've actually broken most every gerber knife I've ever owned. sure they say it's got a lifetime warranty, but, that doesn't change that it still broke. I've actually seen a mark II broken while splitting a deer's pelvis with it...(mine has survived much thicker bone....multiple times, so, I'm not sweating this one)

oh, and it doesn't help that I lost most all respect for them as a company when they started slapping bear grylls name on half of their products....though, I'm sure he was happy to have the endorsement (even though he rarely carries a gerber on the shows)...and drank his own piss in celebration.

I'd never heard of Randell before I saw this thread. I checked out the site, holy shiznit, I thought shrock had a long wait time. Definitely nice stuff but I don't have the patience to wait 4 years.

I have a little collection but my every day carry is the Kershaw Leek. Its a great pocket knife, and the assisted opening is nice for one handed operation.

I agree about Gerber not being what it used to be but I do like the zombie apocalypse kit they came out with.

SOG makes one too, and I trust theirs not to break if I use it hard....I've used my sog folder to pry my xterra door open far enough to get a wire through to unlock the door, and I'd already bent and broken everything else I'd tried. (fun way to find out that someone's remote start is the same frequency as the "lock doors" on the X....and it was running)

It's a tough little bugger too. All the Beckers are. They're made of 1090 CroVan steel. I've seen videos of some of the larger Beckers being absolutely trashed and abused, hammered on, batonned through sheet metal and nails, used as pry bars, and still not break or shatter. A quick regrind on a belt sander followed up with an edge hone and they're good as new. I'm gonna add a Becker BK-2 or BK-7 to my get home bag soon.

The Gerber I keep in the Xterra. This Gerber is supposed to be the remake of the first run. Gerber does have a new survival knife to be released next month. The Imperial I keep in a EDC bag that I keep in the passenger seat of my Xterra and the black I keep on me. I also have a assortment of Katana's and straight swords.

Two new ones...
IMG_2619.JPG

Both are CRKT
If ya'll are knife shopping, find a CRKT and ask for some form of demonstration of how obscenely vicious the Veff serrations (like these two have) can be. These serrations have sold me on CRKT, their blade quality has kept me.

I was finding the same thing here in Fort Collins, but I've found BladeHQ has a pretty extensive online store and shipping is actually not too bad, the couple knives I've bought from them have arrived within a few days of ordering with nothing more than Priority Mail.

I got my Becker from Amazon, my Sogs direct from Sog's website. Amazon has a pretty good selection of knives at good prices.
