I was out hunting last week and ended up having to do a bit of a bush fix on one of my power steering lines. Here's what happened and then why you should check that same line on your truck;
The hard return line from the steering gearbox had a hole worn into it from the little nubbin on the bottom of the fan shroud that holds the auto tranny cooler line. If you look under the fan shroud you will see two hard aluminum lines clamped together. Make sure there is clearance at the above referenced nubbin basically at the centre of the fan shroud.
I ended up pulling the clamps and sliding some flex hose over the hole and putting a bunch of hose clamps on the flex hose to seal it up.
After I got home I hit the auto wreckers for a replacement line and when I was cleaning it up I noticed the replacement had some wear marks in the same spot although there wasn't a hole yet. I'm sure there are more than just these two examples as to why you should have a look.
I'm now thinking of replacing the entire hard line and the two flex lines on each end of it with one longer flex line.
I hope this prevents one of you from having to make the same fix in the bush.
Cheers!
