Due to some rock rash at ECXC, I decided to bedline my rear quarters/steps. Removal is easy. Just 5 screws along the inside fender well and then 2 10mm bolts below the taillights. There are two tabs along the upper body line, but these release with a gentle pull.

Cleaned with soap and water then started prep. Just light sanding then washed and cleaned with denatured alcohol. Then started painting.

When I started to paint last night, it of course began to rain so I had to finish in my basement. I got a couple small runs that I think only I will notice. Let dry overnight then bake in sun today.

Then took 10 min and put back on.

Oh, and then these came today. More to come. :tunes:

Dephep arrived. A BIG thank you to Dephep and Xterra Performance. This thing is top notch. Beautiful welds and excellent service from Xterra Performance.

Here it is after arrival in my redneck paint booth hanging from a tree.

Installed;

Again, I seriously cant emphasize how well this thing was made. If you don't have one and ever haul anything up top, buy one.

Random question coming...the silver X in front of you must be a 2014 with the new wheels and the back up camera. Do you happen to know if they are on a forum or have a build thread? I like the way the tire carrier seems to hold the tire up higher than most, and I was wondering how much of the back up camera the tire and carrier blocked.

Quick question. What did you do about the flare out on the shock mounts when you installed the shock skids?

Jeff's X

Be more than happy to help. But I'm not sure what you mean by the flare out. The shock mount is basically just a square box as seen here;

The shock skids should fit directly over with a little manipulating as seen here;

One thing I would suggest is getting a new bolt for the hole that you need to drill. I broke one just torquing down and I have spoken to others that had the same issue. Not sure if a bad batch of bolts were sent to a few or what happened. But you might want to keep an eye on them or just get new ones to be safe. As for your original question, do you have a pic of the flare you mean?

I'll get new bolts for sure.

My mounts have flare outs on them?

From what I see from the last pic it looks like the "flares" may be able to be straightened out with pliers so you can fit the skid on.

I know the pain of waiting weeks to install new toys. I guess a lot of us do. Can't wait to see it!

A huge thank you to the usual Mod Day crew of Dave and Tyler for giving me hand with the bumper and Tyler for all the wiring of the light bar. I can turn wrenches but when it comes to anything electrical, I barely trust myself to screw in a light bulb. I'm very thankful that we were able to make all of our PITA schedules coincide to get this done. I thought it was going to be a week or two before we could.

So the new goodies for today are a Hefty Fabworks front bumper with rad skid, and 24" LED bar with rocker switch. I've been wanting this bumper since I got the X, so this is going to be pic heavy.

Dave and Tyler giving their thumbs up approval.

As you know I'm eagerly awaiting to join the blue club.

It looks like you had your lift with 600lb coils for a few weeks before adding your bumper. Was the ride tolerable with the heavy coils and no weight up front? I'm just trying to decide what order to do stuff in. Also, I know you haven't had your set up very long, but would you do anything different suspension wise if you had to do it over again?

And when all this is said and done, I hope you don't think I'm trying to copy you mod for mod, but yours being modded and blue makes for great inspiration lol.

No, it didn't feel sloppy or stiff at all. I did however have to readjust them after bumper installation. My only regret suspension wise was not just going straight to my current set up. Besides that, no regrets.

You can copy me all you want, it wont bother me at all. We all copy one another haha. If you have any questions let me know. My main inspiration when I started was Steadyhigh over on the forum that shall not be named. By the way how far are you from OBX? I'll be in the area with the rig Oct 6-13th.
