CPS code after install of new clutch????

2002, V6, 5 speed, non supercharged....just had new clutch installed and now my X throws a code saying crankshaft position sensor. I used my code reader to clear code, SES does stay off for a short time but code comes back and SES light turns on. No obvious loss of power, starts right up every time, getting 18-19 mpg. My thoughts on the CPS is that it either works or does not. I have not done any wire tracing, the CPS is in a killer of a location! I can't recall the exact code but think it is PO335, but code does translate to CPS! Any help?

IIRC its on top of the transmission, reads off the flywheel teeth. My guess is the shop either forgot to plug it back in or bashed the sensor up reinstalling the transmission. If a shop did the clutch install take it back and let them deal with it since they screwed it up.

If they charge you something ridiculous, know that its a $15 part (+/- $5) held on with a connector and a screw or two. I had this problem on my Jeep, which prevented my engine from starting. I know you don't have those symptoms, but it could happen if your sensor is going out.

My jeep pu (comanche) did the same, would turn over but no fire. Mech said this sensor does not do much but is willing to change it. I thought it had something to do with injectors firing but he said cam/knock sensor does that. It is in a killer of a location. Really have a love-hate relation with my X! Tnx for all your input.

The crankshaft sensor shouldn't throw a check engine light on a non-supercharged engine. It'll throw a code, but it's not used for engine management like it is on the SC engine. So I'm wondering why you have an SES light to begin with.

I have heard the knock sensor code is for SC model. When I replace the CPS (mech who did clutch said he would do it for cost of part), am I safe getting one from NAPA or other suppliers knowing it is not OEM? Heard a rumor they must be replaced in pairs (knock n CPS).
