Cal's Build

Just for the record I would have driven right into that mud without any hesitation... You did nothing wrong (really) and more often than not - you would make it through anything that size without any trouble in the future. :kewl:

haha thanks. In the future I'll be a bit higher. Got a 2 inch lift to install and then some 33 inch tires to get. Should add some clearance :)

The clearance will help. I have more work to do to get bigger tires still.

Finally got to put my tail light brush guards on to match the front brush guard.

Pics later. On the cell.

Here is the pictures of the tail light brush guards. I love the added look it provides. Tomorrow comes the 2 inch leaf/spacer lift at Prime's house!

Hey Cal. Just read through your build. Looking good. Thanks for serving! I was in the Air Force in Germany a while back and now am in the guard. Let me know if you ever need anything. I always take care of the forum guys and I give military discount. Let me know! Other than that enjoy your first term out there...you will remember those days for the rest of your life. Believe me!!

Prime and I spent the better half of Saturday and a few hours of Sunday hammering this 2 inch spacer lift out. It was one hell of a job. Sure we broke some tools, sure within 20 minutes I needed stitches, sure I learned how seriously inept I am with mechanic stuff, sure we made a few errors, but it was well worth it for how it looks now! It looks and rides awesome!

Within 20 minutes of trying to wrench a bolt off the top of the strut I learned that the control arms we're very SHARP. Cut myself damn good. Could of used a few stitches but I just bandaged myself up. I have a full med kit in the trunk. Even after a day you can still see how deep it is even without much healing.

So after I left Prime's house I saw this really neat car wash place. Spent $42 and the Xterra now looks and feels inside and outside brand ****ing new. Awesome. Well worth the money.

Next thing I do will be a tow bar so I have a tow point for NXM. Then I would like to work on exterior lighting. I'm waiting for the tires to go bald but whenever that happens I'm upgrading to '33 tires.

Thanks all :kewl:

I'm glad I finally got this mod off the floor and out of the closet. It was taking up room LOL.

I need to find a good tow bar for the next thing but I'm going to be looking into exterior lighting soon. I really like the lights Prime has on his truck. I might do something similar.

Yeah. I don't think I've ever had so much trouble w/ a simple lift. List of broken tools included, 2 sockets, one 3/8 socket wrench, one 1/2" socket wrench, a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter, a spring compressor, and a bench vise. Yeah. This truck broke my bench vise.

And I was stupid and left the lower shock bushings out. Which is why we were back at it on Sunday. But all is well and I think the truck looks great with the lift.

/Cal's truck isn't allowed near my tools

Military discount? How good? Does it work for vets?

Hey, was that you following me out of base yesterday? If so, your X is starting to look pretty beefy! I am suprised at how big of a difference that lift made.

Was I driving fast? LOL. I'm not sure. What time did you leave? It probably was since I don't think there's any other modded Xterra's on base besides us (and that one guy from Club Xterra but his is a gray X). I work nights in the hospital now so you'll commonly see me leaving in the morning.

I need to post some better pictures up I guess. Yeah it looks good now and I'll be getting bigger tires on it as soon as these ones wear out which we'll give it even more lift.

Right now, since moving, I'm just biding my time. I don't have the pocket change for anymore mods :-/

/added some old pics. Updated the list.

You guys aren't seeing me lately because I'm dead broke. I mean seriously broke. Can't afford to mod....can't afford to even leave the house much. Then there's this new apartment...all of my savings are going to furniture. I just bought a coffee table. I don't drink coffee! Should have bought the damn tow hitch I wanted lol.

Although anyone in VA heading to the VAXC meet on Saturday I expect to be there. So hope I see some folks. (if you don't know about the event PM me and I'll fill you in).

Merry Christmas! I was using my Dad's garage here in PA today and I got a lot of minor and misc stuff done!

To do list for 2014: Hitch, Mouthbar Light Bar, Lightbar, CB Radio Antenna mount, shrockworks sliders, and to start saving for a heftyfab front bumper. 33 inch tires if needed...I'm waiting for these to wear out first.

The first picture here is how the rig stands today as of Christmas Eve 2013.

These two images are the biohazard pieces above actually painted and applied to my rims. Looks really good!

This is a simple switch box connected to DC power. Basically it houses my GPS and Blue Lights. I now have a code 3 blue light on the front and one code 3 blue light on the back. These switches control that and are conveniently out of way. In front of the shifter is a speaker connected to the CB and the EMS Scanner.

This is the EMS Scanner and the CB Radio installed into the center box. The CB radio is new and I'm still working on setting it up. Trying to have it up before VAXC's January trip.

Here is the rear code 3 blue light. Very bright. It's a bungie cord so it can be removed easily.

Question for you folks: Someone told me the other day that my rims are not stock. I did not put them on the truck. The previous owner did. The person who told me this guessed they we're off a Nissan Titan. Can anyone confirm this??

Did some photoshopping the Xterra. I will be adding the following things once the warm weather comes back...

1. Going to paint all the plastic pieces (bumpers and door panels) gun metal grey with plastidip.
2. Going to pain the step plastic piece with black plastidip.
3. Going to finally buy and add a hitch with a D-Ring on the end of it.
4. Going to get two antenna mounts for the side and bend them to fit around the brush guards (EMS Scanner antenna / CB antenna)
5. I would get 33 or 34 inch tires....but I'm waiting until I need new tires....so that'll depend when these tires get worn out.
6. I would like a basket of some kind to sit on the top rails although I haven't looked into it yet.

Actually today is kinda warm. Maybe I'll go out and start some of it today.

Sorry for the poor photoshop work here lol. It was just to see what things would look like before I did them.

Your wheels are stock. Reference DirtyRice's X. I believe that Is why he named his Professor X, because they look like the wheels on Professor X's Wheel chair.

Ah ok. Guess that guy didn't know what he was talking about then lol (but neither did I...so...)

Tried painting today. Failed epicly. It was warm but far too windy. Plus I don't think the property security officer wanted me doing it. I mean hell I only pay over 1K to live there monthly. I think they can lend me a parking space well away from anyone else's car....but apparently not since he parked so obnoxiously close and pretty much stalked me. I need my own garage lol.

I decided on grey for the plastic pieces and I'll just use a heavier coating to make it darker. Gun metal plasti dip isn't stocked in any of my local Home Depot's or Lowes. Got some black too for the steps.

I just need a warm day with no wind. (no security either).

Also finally got the new Satellite Radio Installed.

Damn snow kept me from painting or putting on my new CB mount. In fact this is what the Xterra looked like by noon. It now has about 3-4 more inches of snow on it now.

Decided I'm going to add on to the lettering on the back like a lot of you guys did and it'll look like this....officially dubbing it the....Storm Hunter Edition Xterra.

Finally got my CB antenna installed. Took 3 weeks longer than expected due to nothing matching up. Finally I took it all apart and spliced by own mount together.

Looks nice. How does the rear hatch interfere with it?

Rear hatch doesn't bother it at all. Everything closes real nice and nothing touches. Took it on the highway at 80mph and it's still there...so I must have done something right lol.

I need to do the same thing to that little scanner radio antenna on the window. I need to find a good bigger antenna for it first. It's for Fire/EMS.
