Anyone rebuild their engine?

I have an '01 with around 270-280 KMs (170ish miles) and I'm thinking about rebuilding the engine. This past summer I had some cooling issues and had to turn the heater on when going up hills to keep it from overheating for about a week before I swapped in a new S/C sized rad. I'm worried I might have missed it once or twice and a head or two is warped since I recently found I was a little low on coolant and there were some minor signs of evaporated coolant on the inside of the oil cap. It also leaks a reasonable amount of oil as in by the time the next oil change is due it gets close to min. if I don't top it up.

I know I could pull the heads and have them decked and then I could pull the front diff to do oil pan gasket which is the main oil leak, but it sure would be easier to do both with the engine pulled.

I'm thinking of doing the following to try and squeak out a little more;

Have it bored over a bit even if it is just 0.040" which i think is the biggest in the rebuild kits without getting into pistons from other engines etc.

Port/polish/gasket match

With all that out of the way here are my questions;

Has anyone rebuilt the VG33E and done the above and was it worth it?

Anyone try the euro cams? I'd look into the high performance ones but not only are they more expensive, it looks like you should be changing other parts with them as well which adds even more to the cost. For $300 the 5% increase they claim doesn't seem like much.

Anyone just rebuild the engine without doing any of the above? Any issues?

I did a top end rebuild to replace my head gaskets, but probably should've pulled it and had someone do the whole thing.

Just know you're probably going to put a LOT more into the engine than the truck is worth but if you are going to do it, do it right. Pull it and have it rebuilt as close to new as you can get.

I'll be doing the work myself other than any machining so a rebuild kit plus that will be my cost.

Unless someone else has done the euro cams and can recommend them, I doubt I will change the cams as it's just too much money for so little claimed gains in power, and the Canadian dollar is pretty crappy right now as well.
