Anyone have any experience with Kimber handguns?

I have a question for the gun folks...

I've been looking for a .40 - .45 handgun for a while now and I think I've found one that I like:

http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/super-carry/super-carry-ultra

I had a chance to fire the one of the XD compact models with the .45 chambering and I liked it. About a month ago, I was on an extended business trip in Florida and I was thinking about just ordering the XD compact online while I was there so that it would be waiting at my FFL guy's place when I returned home. Since there was a large Bass Pro Shops store down the road from my hotel, I figured that I'd go down there and take a last look at the XD before placing the order. When I was there, a Kimber Crimson caught my eye so I checked that one out as well. I really liked the feel and the fit and finish appeared to be very nice. After looking at the Kimber line, it seems to me that all of their compact frames are very similar so I think I want to try the Super Carry Ultra.

Anyone have any experience with these or know anything about the company?

I've never been much of a gun guy but I have a bunch of friends that have let me play with their stuff over the years. Based on the guns that I've looked at so far, does anyone have suggestions or other stuff to check out? I trained as a machinist for five years while I was in college and in that time, I gained a deep appreciation for solid craftsmanship. If whatever I buy fits me well, I will probably keep it for the rest of my life so I'm willing to pay for quality.

The only thing I know about Kimber is from a guy I work with ( keep I'm mind were correction officers) but that is the only weapon he carries off duty as his personal weapon. He carries a Kimber 45cal.

My dad has a custom Kimber 1911. They're pricey and took their time with it since it was a commemorative model. It fires nice, but ours is more of a show piece rather than a duty pistol.

Got a stainless custom target and an ultra carry too.
Target gets about 100 rounds every Thursday night in pin shooting competition, and occasionally the ultra carry too.

I've rebarreled with a Clark compensated barrel and the trigger is tuned up but basically stock and at least 15 yrs old with NO failures !

Great guns IMO.

I've got Kimber TLE RL Custom, and I have no complaints what so ever. I also have Springfield XDM's in 9mm, 40, and 45. IMO they are absolutely worth the money..
