Once my tax return comes I think I will be ordering the hardcore offroad bumper for my truck but without the swing out becaus it's now exactly what I want.

But that leaves the question of what to use for the tubing on the swingout. I feel that 3/16 2x2 would be enough since I have seen 1/8 2x4 used befor on jeeps. What tubing would everyone elce recommend going with?

2x2 3/16" is MORE than enough. even a 24-30" piece is pretty stout and will be plenty to mount your upright for the wheel mount plate. You will still want to add a brace piece, but you will be just fine with a piece of 2x2 3/16"

I plan to brace on both sides of the upright and the pasanger side will hold a jerry can. I have never had a rear mounted tire but I have always wanted to, every truck I have had the spare just sat in the cargo space taking up much needed room and had to come out to move anything large.

The other problem wih the tire in the back is how bad it screws up the carpet. After about a year the carpet in my 4runner was so bad I ripped it out and Rhino lined the whole thing

I ended up not buying that one but building my own. Put in a order for 3/16 2x2 but when I picked it up they had sold me 1/4. It will be real stout but heavy.
