Hey there from Arlington, TX!

The only brand new vehicle my wife and I have ever purchased was a 2000 Xterra SE 4x2 in the summer of 1999 when they first came out. I took her to see it at the auto show at the State Fair of Texas and she loved it! It was a great truck but we sold it after a couple of years to get something with a smaller payment once we had our twins. Needless to say, my wife has had an Xterra-shaped hole in her heart ever since...

Fast-forward to 2016, and the twins have begun driver training with their learner's permits. We already have the 2000 Honda Accord that we traded in the Xterra for all those years ago, but eventually the twins will need their own car because of the opposite nature of their activities.

As I scoped out the landscape to find an Xterra in the $3000 price range (comparable to what the Accord goes for...) I came across a 2007 Xterra S 4x4 in Desert Stone with 188k miles at a nearby dealer that I couldn't pass up for $4000. Works perfectly, clean, smells good, with a clean title and a minor accident (no airbag deployment) on the CarFax. I REALLY like the 2nd-gen powertrain compared to that dog of a 3.3L motor from the original--not only that, but it's got a 5-speed auto, disc brakes all around, and a rack-and-pinion steering setup that are all great improvements...

Anyway, sorry for the story but we're pretty excited to once again own an Xterra. I look forward to playing around with the 4wd system a bit just to see what it'll do once I go through getting all the fluids changed and making sure maintenance is perfect. My wife's daily driver is a 2005 Armada LE 4x4, and hopefully the Xterra will keep them just as safe.

Woohoo!!

Welcome from Allen! Is this where we tell him about the milkshake transmission thing, or nah?

HaHa!!

I'm hoping most of the problems at 188k have already shaken out, but I have long since learned that most vehicles are gonna have some kind of problem, and it's still cheaper than buying a new car. I feel pretty good about my chances.

It's bone-stock at this point. I'm definitely looking to add the OEM step rails and possibly the side-molding. Other than that, just shore up any of the critical known problem points. It smells like it's got a little bit of an exhaust leak, but that's all I'm aware of.

Hmmm, I guess I'll need to figure out which photo site I can link images from--my Google Photo isn't working. I'll try Shutterfly later. Does the link work?
