2005 X-Terra SE - rumbling when pressing gas pedal

Hi there.......I have a 2005 X-terra SE with about 147,000 KM's (92,000 miles). Lately I've found that on occasion when on freeway or travelling at higher speeds of up to 100-120 km/h (60 mph) when I step on the gas I feel a rumbling underneath the car. When I take foot off gas, it goes away.....not sure if I should be concerned about this? Has anyone else experienced anything similiar?

Appreciate the feedback!

Although the problem has become less common as awareness has grown, do you know what the "Strawberry Milkshake of Death" (SMOD) is in relation to your year (and several proceeding years') Xterra? This was a catastrophic problem on the early second generation Xterras and needs to be observed and remedied immediately by any second hand 05-09(ish)' owner.

Here is a decent article about it explaining the history:

I would suspect driveline U-joints if it does it under application of throttle

Thanks guys for the feedback..........checked rad myself and didn't see any strawberry-coloured fluid, but will go get checked out to be safe. Little scary to here about this rad/tranny issue reported. I find my xterra is still in good shape after 10.5 years and only 146,500 kms, but this concerns me.

IIRC toronto uses alot of Salt during the winter times. check for SMOD and also the Ujoints in the drive shafts, ( front adn back).
