Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Hey guys. I need some input. Internet is giving me 2 different answers.
I'm going to replace my Mass Air Flow Sensor, and some places say I can just unscrew the small sensor from the top of the housing, and some places say I cant, and have to replace the whole housing.
Has anyone done this, and which route did you take.
It's for a 2000 XE. 3.3L.

never replaced it, but the sensor is the piece screwed into the tube just after the air filter. I've removed it numerous times for cleaning.

You do not have to replace the entire assembly. Just remove the sensor from the tube.
