Ok time to revive this thread.

I started using Honest Amish leave in beard conditioner earlier this week. It hast definitely become softer and more manageable. Normally mine frizzes out and looks like those short and curlies but now I have been able to get it ro lay down pretty well.

I plan to try out their heavy duty beard balm and other products in the future.

I'm still jealous of all yall who are able to keep your beards, I miss the beard I grew after I left active duty.

I started mine because I knew I was going to have to be doing some work outside during the winter and at night. Decided I liked it but shaved it off when summer came around.....realized how much I preferred having a beard a grew it back. My facesweater is about a year and a half old now, just started letting it really grow out though.

Mine's still rocking along... but then again, I haven't been clean shaven since about 1994-ish :D

Hmmm, I think I was last clean shaven in the early 1970's. My wife convinced me to grow one, and the rest is history.

For me beard balm makes a big difference. Normally mines rough and scraggly, but using balms it's super soft and much more manageable.

Yeah I get it off Amazon. Honest amish is my favorite so far.

Honest Amish: makes my beard the softest and my favorite smell of the 3. But it doesn't have as much control. (Need to try the heavy duty, its supposed to have better hold)

Grave before shave beard bomb: smells like vics vapor rub just not as strong, its still pleasant. Goes on a little thicker than honest amish but provides a better hold. Doesnt make the beard quite as soft either but still much soft than it would be without.

Beard Balm Beard Balm: yes the brand name is beard balm. Have not used yet but don't really like the smell right now. I'll have to use it to see how the feel, hold and final smell.

Jesus, beard balms?

Why don't y'all just head over to the hair stylists and sit in one of those pink chairs with the dome over your head, etc?

Whatever you shampoo/condition your head with should be good enough to avoid needing to go metro sexual.

My current growth is not what it used to be, but all my close friends are now married so I won't be forced to shave or trim again. It's party time!

Anyway I experimented and made my own beard balm tonight. The base is coconut oil, which is a solid at room temperature with a very low melting point, and is also very light and non-greasy. It's great for your hair and skin. I melted some down in a glass jar placed in a bath of boiling water and dropped in a few drops of tea tree oil, eucalyptus essential oil and grapefruit essential oil. Mix well and let it cool. Once it's cool it will return to a solid. I combed a very small amount through my beard, it didn't leave any greasy residue or oily mess and pretty quickly thereafter it was softer, smoother, and looked more "tame".

Each of the essential oils do various things for your skin, hair, and mind. They detoxify, moisturize, cleanse, soothe, and relax, besides smelling pleasant. My wife has a ton of essential oils for various homeopathic remedies and a little goes a long, long way, so I'll likely be experimenting further with different blends. So far I'm a fan! As with most things in life, I'd rather make my own rather than buy something pre-made, for a handful of reasons.

Just thought I'd share.

First Fill-Up (of many)
I started growing mine out about 5 months ago and I have to say, I never knew the power of beards! At work I've been getting compliments left and right from people, from elderly people, young adults and yes, even little kids (I had this little girl who said nice beard as they started driving away, but I'm sure her dad wanted her to say it lol). But damn, it's fricken awesome. Not only do visitors not mess with me as much as they do with other people, but it gives you that rugged mountain man look lol Awesome as hell if you ask me lol

That's really interesting church, Becca has been getting into the essential oils too but she doesn't have tea tree oil yet.

Tea tree oil is great stuff, I've used it for a while now to treat my "youthful" skin...(acne) lol. It's got a strong smell though, not sure what I'd compare it to.

I'm thinking about making a lavender balm next, to use before going to bed. Lavender is soothing and calming and helps many get to sleep.

Yeah, after reading my other post, and now this one, I think it's time I come out to XN as the "gobble damned Hippy" that I am, haha

FYI jojoba oil is amazeballs. it is one of the most similar natural oils to that of the oil human skin produces, but without the dirt to clog your pores. I have VERY thick, long, and coarse hair on my head (italian) and i used jojoba oil on my hair AND my face and it naturally hydrates both without being too oily, heavy or smelly. highly recommended to the beardos.

Interesting. I've heard of/read about jojoba oil, but never heard from anyone who's used it. What would you compare the smell to?

it's almost odorless. for my face, i would use it along or mix it with an all natural orange cream that I buy from Kit Naturals. for my hair i use it by itself. if you're looking for a smell, you can probably mix in a few drops of another essential oil.
